Mission Statement: To build a capable, affordable cruising boat with readily-available skills, materials, equipment and facilities.
If, like me, you dream of getting out there and sailing/cruising the world's waters, this blog/site aims to show my approach to how to do just that. Capable cruising boats should not be limited to the reach of the rich and privileged. If you accept the premise that a 25 year working lifespan for your boat is plenty for you to achieve your dreams (seems reasonable!) and are not concerned about such capitalist constructs as resale value, then the capable cruising boat is within the reach of a meagre budget. Go for it!

The build goes on! It's been a bit strange after the roll over. I think all of my focus was on achieving the roll over successfully and I hadn't really been thinking about how I'd progress immediately after that. Consequently, it's taken me a couple of weeks to get on track for the build again. I think (hope!) I've done that now and that we're progressing sensibly again. Anyhow, despite this weirdness, I think I rather like this video. Hope you do too!!

Basically, the raised deck beams are faired up now, I do an initial fair on the coachroof sides and fit the clamps/stringers around the coachroof/raised deck top, we mill the lumber for the stringer/shear clamp extension and start to fit that, ensuring that the angles of that will give a smooth flow to the combings that will attach to it at some later point...

It's back to boatbuilding this week after the big roll over. It took a while to get everything straight and back together, get the boat set up level and tidy up a bit, but then thoughts turned to the coachroof/raised deck. The stringers that run around the top of the coachroof sides are currently in progress. This involves ensuring that all of the deck beams are running true.

Well, we did it! On Saturday we pulled her out of the shed and flipped her over so she's now the right way up! I'm posting the video of it all below; photos will come in a later post. Phew!

And here's the video of the sheathing process of the hull sides. She's all done now, had an extra coat of epoxy to fill the weave and is ready for the roll over!

Simon from the Finding Simon YouTube channel has very kindly mentioned my channel in the video he's put out to celebrate his achieving 20k subscribers. In the video, he lists 20 other YouTube channels that he thinks are worth a look. If you are interested in watching that video, you can find it here;

This week is all about sheathing the hull in fibreglass cloth in epoxy. It's not really a job that I enjoy, but it is important to get it right ie. get the cloth down nice and flat with no air bubbles in it. So, I prepped it all up, opened the doors wide to get maximum air flow through the shed and set to it. See what you think.

I'll also be posting a whole stack of photos here soon
