Mission Statement: To build a capable, affordable cruising boat with readily-available skills, materials, equipment and facilities.
If, like me, you dream of getting out there and sailing/cruising the world's waters, this blog/site aims to show my approach to how to do just that. Capable cruising boats should not be limited to the reach of the rich and privileged. If you accept the premise that a 25 year working lifespan for your boat is plenty for you to achieve your dreams (seems reasonable!) and are not concerned about such capitalist constructs as resale value, then the capable cruising boat is within the reach of a meagre budget. Go for it!

Had a major sort out at the weekend. Basically emptied one workshop/storage area and moved other stuff (bicycles) in there. All of the boating bits from the workshop/storage area are now either in the boatshed or waiting to be moved there. There's a lot of thought and organisation needed. Progress :-)

Just read your new sub-blog about the Miss Molly I - btw. nowdays it would probably have to be Ms. ;-) - and found out something that I did know about you:
You know and like Jimmy Buffett! Amazing! I don't think I've never met anyone in Germany who has even heard of him. My American host-dad John was a huge Buffett fan and I remember listening to him on pretty much every road trip we took.
Come to think of it, John actually made sure that we went to Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville on a trip we took to Key West. I was too young for a margarita though back then... I'll have to dig up the old Buffett cd and listen to it tonight.

Indeed. As the unfolding story will reveal, Jimmy Buffett's music was a recurring theme on our west coast travels.

I have a couple of Buffett CDs and still play a couple of his big hits from time to time on the guitar. I see him as an essential part of recent US American culture. He has an enormous following there.
